Got questions about health procedures at YMCA Camp Greenville? We’ve got answers! Check out the most frequently asked questions to help prepare your camper for camp!

How can I prepare my camper to be healthy at camp?

All campers are required to submit a completed health form, which includes any required medications, by May 15th, 2026 via the current camp registration system. After May 15, 2026, a form will be made available in the Parent Portal to request any edits to your child’s medical information as needed.

If your camper is returning to YMCA Camp Greenville from a previous year, please be sure to review and update/remove/add medications and any other healthcare information, including immunizations, to reflect your camper’s current medication administration and healthcare needs and history.

Please be thorough and honest in preparing your camper’s health forms. Sharing the full scope of your camper’s current health and health history will help us to ensure your camper’s success at camp, as well as the success of their peers. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your camper’s health at camp, please contact camper_services@ymcagreenville.org.

What if my camper gets hurt?

All cabin leaders and direct supervision staff are required to be CPR/First aid certified. In addition, two registered nurses are housed at camp each week of camp. The nurses’ primary responsibility is distributing daily and as-needed medications, but they are also in the Health Hut at all times should any medical concerns arise.

If your child acquires a minor injury/illness (cuts, scrapes, bug bites, headache, etc.), our staff will treat the injury/illness according to their treatment certification level and with your camper’s approved OTC medications as outlined in their Health Form.

If your child is injured/ill and it is not life-threatening (strains, sprains, persistent but mild injury/illness), we will treat the injury/illness and will contact you as needed to discuss your camper’s condition & progression, additional treatment plan, and if there is recommendation for further/outside medical attention. If further medical attention is advised, you will be asked if you would like to come and pick your camper up to take them to their doctor, or we can transport them to a local urgent care utilizing the insurance you provided.

If a life-threatening issue should arise, we will immediately contact emergency personnel and will call you as soon as we are able thereafter.

When medical situations do arise, know that we do everything we can to allow the camper to continue their week of camp.

What if my camper takes medication?

At check in, you will stop at the Health Hut to drop medication off with our two nurses for the week. Medications (we accept both prescription and prescribed over-the-counter medication, including prescribed drops, creams, vitamins, melatonin, etc.) MUST be prepared according to our Medication Administration Parent Guide (click button above) or they CANNOT be accepted at camp.

Nurses distribute medication only at the times indicated on a camper’s Health Form and on their properly labeled medication, and all medication administration is logged. If your camper is on adventure trip or away for their camp-out night, the Trip Leader will be responsible for administering medication; the medication will be specifically prepared and packaged for their trip by our camp nurses, and the Trip Leaders will be advised on proper administration.

Campers, LDPs, and staff are NOT ALLOWED to keep medication of any kind in their camper cabin. All medication must be checked into/dropped off at and kept in the Health Hut.

Our Health Hut nurses are approved to administer oral and topical medications ONLY. Medications that must be administered by injection or rectally will not be allowed at camp (with the exception of emergency epinephrine autoinjectors). If this presents a concern for your camper, please contact camper_services@ymcagreenville.org or call (864) 823-2043.

What do I need to do to prepare for my camper to take medications at camp?

All medications MUST be listed on the Health Form in the current registration system before May 15, 2026 in order to be reviewed by our camp medical staff before camper arrival. This includes ALL medications a camper many take while at camp (see the Medication Administration Parent Guide above for more information about accepted medications).

If there has been a change to your camper's medications since you submitted the Health Form, please complete the "Health & Medication Change Form" which will be located in your Parent Portal after May 15, 2026.

If you arrive at camp with a medication that is not listed on the Health Form or on the Health & Medication Change form, it will not be accepted, and you will be asked to take the medication with you off-site.

Thank you for helping us to ensure the safety of all campers by reviewing our current healthcare procedures and following our medication preparation guidelines.
