Magical Moment for Adventure Guides

Submitted by Greg McKee

This photo captures a truly magical moment from the Adventure Guides weekend at YMCA Camp Greenville. After an energizing square dance, I began singing “The Circle Game” with the group. The girls sat close around me, while their fathers stood quietly in a semi-circle about 50 feet behind them. As I started the third verse, one young girl suddenly stood and walked to her father — a beautiful, spontaneous gesture. Then, one by one, the other girls followed until every daughter was standing side by side with her dad. It was a simple act, yet deeply moving, and the moment was captured perfectly by YCG staff member Alex Beavers. I was completely overwhelmed by the emotion of it all — the power of music, the courage and heart of an 8-year-old, and the unspoken bond between parent and child. These are the moments that remind us why we sing — to connect, and to celebrate love in its purest form. This weekend reminded me that the smallest gestures often leave the deepest impact.
