Summer Prep: First Aid + Medications

What if my camper gets hurt?

All cabin leaders and direct supervision staff are required to be CPR/First aid certified. In addition, 2 nurses are housed at camp each week of camp. Their primary responsibility is distributing medications but they are also in the health center at all times should any problems arise.

If your child is injured and it is not life threatening (abrasions, sprain, etc) we will call you before treating to inform you of the nurses recommendation. If further medical attention is needed you will be asked if you would like to come and pick them up to take them to their doctor or we will transport them to local urgent care under the insurance you provided.

We do everything we can to allow the child to continue their week of camp.

If a life threatening issue should arise, we will immediately contact emergency personnel and call you thereafter.

What if my camper takes medication?

At check in, you will stop at the Health Hut to drop medication off with our two nurses for the week. Medications (prescription and over the counter, including vitamins etc) MUST be in the originally labeled container or they will NOT be accepted. This is for the protection of your camper, the other campers, and our nurses.

Nurses will distribute medication at the times indicated and all dosing will be logged. If your camper is on adventure or away for their camp out night, the Trip Leader will be responsible for giving out medication that is packaged for their trip by our nurses.

Campers, LDPs, and staff are not allowed to keep medication of any kind in their camper cabin.

Medication Restrictions:

All medications MUST be listed on the Health History Form before you arrive at camp, in order to be reviewed by our health team before arrival. This includes both prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, supplements, etc.

If there has been a change to your camper's medications since the time you submitted the Health Form, please complete the "Medication Change Form" which will be located in your parent portal 5 days before check-in for your session.

All planned medications (whether scheduled dosage or "as needed") must be recorded via camper health forms prior to arrival. If you arrive at camp with a medication that is not listed on the Health History form or the Medication Change Form, it will not be accepted by the nurses, and you will be asked to take it with you off-site.

Our Health Hut nurses are approved to administer oral and topical medications only. Medications that must be administered by injection or rectally will not be allowed at camp. If this presents a concern for your camper, please contact the camp office to schedule a phone call with a camp director.
