PACC: Let’s Get Excited About Camp!

Summer camp should be something to look forward to—and getting excited together as a family makes the experience even better. Whether it’s your camper’s first time or fifth, there are simple ways to build anticipation and help them feel confident and eager about what’s ahead.

One great way to generate excitement is to learn about camp together. Watch videos, look at the camp map, or scroll through photos from previous summers. Talk about the things your camper is most excited to try—like swimming, archery, or making s’mores by the fire. This helps create a visual and emotional connection before arrival day.

  • For first-time campers, packing together can turn nerves into anticipation. Involve your child in choosing fun items like silly socks, or stationery for letters home. Help them personalize their trunk or duffel bag with name tags or stickers—it creates ownership and comfort.

  • Parents, use positive language when talking about camp and focus on the fun and growth opportunities. If you’re feeling nervous (which is totally normal), talk to other camp parents or reach out to the camp staff ahead of time.

Getting excited about camp is about focusing on what’s ahead, not what’s being left behind. With the right balance of preparation and positivity, both campers and parents can approach camp with confidence and joy.
