Check-In + Check-Out Procedures

Opening Day / Check-In

Every session begins on a Sunday at the entrance to camp. The designated time for check-in is between 2:30 PM and 4:00 PM. The gates will not be opened prior to 2:30pm. Please note that there will be a long car line when you arrive.

At the Front of the Line

  • Your camper will be marked off on the roster and you will have the opportunity to review your cabin assignment (also sent in your initial check-in email).

  • There will be a designated spot to drop off any mail or care packages that you would like delivered to your camper; please have mail already properly labeled.

  • You will receive a card that indicates your cabin “zone” color, and an additional card if your camper takes medications.

  • You will be asked if you would prefer Express Drop-Off or Slow Check-In:

Express Drop-Off

  • Proceed through the gates and follow signs and staff to your cabin area.

  • Park at the cabin area and get out of your car but do not leave the vicinity of your car.

  • Campers will receive their health check at the car and if everything is clear staff will accompany them to the cabin.

  • Parents will then move on to either the parking area for medication drop-off, or be guided to the exit.

Slow Check-in

  • Staff will guide you to where you can park to walk your camper to their cabin. You will take your campers’ luggage with you and then you may help your camper move in (staff will also be available to assist with luggage transfer).

  • Campers will receive their health check at their cabin.

Additional Information

  • If your camper has medication, you will be guided to a parking area where you will then walk to the Health Hut to drop off medication with the nurses. Follow these instructions before arriving at camp!

  • There is a restroom for parents at the Adventure Center at the END of check-in, just before you depart camp.

  • Whether you choose express or slow check-in, when you leave following check-in, PLEASE keep your colored card for check-out on Saturday.

Closing Day / Check-Out

Every session ends on a Saturday at 9:00 AM; early or late check out on Saturdays is not allowed. Check out will begin at the camp entrance. As with Check-In, there will be a long car line when you arrive.

At the Front of the Line

  • Staff will make sure you have your cabin card(s) from Check-In or provide you with a new one if needed.

  • You will drive to your camper’s cabin zone for pick-up. You may get out of your vehicle at this time and wait by your vehicle.

  • A staff member will call for your camper and bring both them and their luggage to your car.

  • Once you load up your camper and their luggage, you will then either be guided to the exit, or you will be guided to parking to pick up any medication or use the restroom at the Adventure Center. You may also walk to our camp store or walk around property for a short time after parking in the designated area. Once your camper is released to you at their cabin, they are under your supervision and responsibility.

Additional Information

  • Campers may be checked out by either parent/guardian listed on their registration profile, and/or any adults listed as emergency contacts on the camper’s Health History form. If another adult will be picking up a camper, the parent/guardian must send an email to the camp office as soon as possible to indicate the newly authorized person(s).

  • If a camper is checked out early from camp, they may not return. The only exception is for seeking medical care; in this case, the departure will be arranged with the camp office, and a doctor’s note will be required in order for the camper to be able to return to camp.

Transportation

GPS & Mapping to Camp

Most map apps will work just fine to get you to camp. Enter "YMCA Camp Greenville" or 4399 YMCA Camp Rd, Cleveland, SC 29635. But just in case, you can follow these simplified instructions:

  1. Take Hwy 276 to the NC/SC State line

  2. Go east on Solomon Jones Rd / YMCA Camp Rd for 4.5 miles

  3. Follow the signs for camper check-in!

Airport Transportation

For out of state or International campers, pick-up from the airport is available for an additional fee. In order to arrange pick-up for your camper, you must complete the Airport Transportation form in your Parent Portal at least 2 weeks prior to arriving at camp. Pick-up can only be provided to/from Greenville/Spartanburg (GSP) and/or Asheville Regional airport (AVL) for a $75 fee each way. If your child is flying as an unaccompanied minor, all fees must be paid to the airline prior to your child's pick up date/time AND your child's departure date/time. All luggage and other airline fees must be paid prior to arrival/departure.

Late Arrival or Early Departure

We do not allow early or late check in or check out.

We’ve specifically designed the start and end of the week of camp to support smooth transitions both entering into camp and coming back from camp and into home life.

If your camper cannot arrive/depart during the scheduled times, our first course of action is to transfer your camper to another session where they can fully participate in the program. Please reach out to our office to reschedule your camper.

If arriving/departing outside the scheduled times is completely unavoidable due to a family emergency, please contact our office for approval. Early or late arrivals or departures are extremely disruptive to the camp schedule and experience, but exceptions may occasionally be made in cases of emergency.

Any arrivals/departures (due to an unavoidable family emergency) the occur outside the scheduled times as indicated above will result in a $150 fee charged to your account, and your camper will lose their "returning" status for next summer (limiting your registration opening date/time to Phase 3 [for new campers], rather than with returning campers in Phase 1)

Communication Between Campers & Parents

Though there are several means for one-sided/slow communication between campers and parents, there is no opportunity to visit your camper during their session. Campers also may not call home except in extreme circumstances, and only after a camp director has already communicated with you regarding the situation. DO NOT tell your camper that they can simply call/come home if they are feeling homesad/sick; this is likely to make things harder for everyone involved.
