Job
Description: Resident Program Staff
The Resident Program Staff
position is intended to provide the staff member with an opportunity to acquire
a variety of teaching and leadership skills that will enrich and contribute to
the on‑going growth of camp programs. The Resident Program Staff position
is a seasonal position.
Qualifications:
 |
Experience
working with children |
 |
A college degree or equivalent
experience |
 |
Current
certification in CPR and First Aid |
 |
Experience
working with groups of all ages, abilities and backgrounds |
 |
Education,
natural history, recreation or science background preferred |
 |
An enthusiastic attitude towards
experiential education |
Responsible to:
Program Directors and/or Coordinators of the
year‑round programs
General Responsibilities:
To be an active part in the overall success of the
Fall/Spring programs at YMCA Camp Greenville.
Specific Responsibilities:
 |
Actively participate in staff training prior to the
beginning of the season |
 |
Develop working understanding of all programs:
Environmental Education, Project Worth and Group Camping |
 |
Teaching,
instructing and supervising groups/participants as assigned |
 |
Participate
in evening programs as assigned |
 |
Attendance at “Welcome Meeting”
and assistance in the orientation of the groups |
 |
Set-up, maintenance, breakdown, and cleaning of
program areas, including timely report of materials needed |
 |
Non-teaching responsibilities including: animal
care, dining hall, camp store, recycling, recreation activities, and others
as assigned |
 |
Work one weekend per month |
 |
Attendance at all staff meetings |
 |
Development of classes and overall
curriculum |
 |
Be on time to all classes, meetings,
meals, and camp functions |
 |
Involvement in a selected project on camp - to
create, extend, and complete within given season |
 |
Become trained in the ropes course
and facilitate use by camp groups |
Essential Job Functions
 |
Active team member of program staff
and camp community

Willingness to model appropriate
behavior around all groups at camp in terms of language, appearance, and
respect of others |
 |
Physical ability for: crouching,
lifting, and carrying 50 pounds, sitting, stooping, climbing, and leading
strenuous hikes. |

Have a positive attitude Ability to
be flexible |
 |
Time management for personal and
professional responsibilities |
 |
Initiative to "jump-in"
where needed and improve programs as seen fit |
 |
Complete certifications in First Aid
and CPR |
 |
Maintain living areas in a clean and
presentable fashion |
 |
Work with ropes courses and group initiatives is required. |
 |

Available:
Seasonal, resident positions only. Fall season runs August
through December; Spring season runs February through May. Exceptional staff may have
extended employment opportunities with the Summer Resident Camp program.
